Welcome to the Hawkesbury Flood Community
The Hawkesbury LGA is located around 60km from the Sydney CBD and straddles the Hawkesbury River.
Colonial settlement started in 1794. We are the third oldest European settlement in Australia.
The Hawkesbury saved the early colonial settlement from starvation. The rich alluvial floodplains here contain 46% of the A-grade food production land in the Sydney basin.
It floods here. It always has.
This web site has been set up by the community, for the community, as an information source to help enable the conversation about flood issues, preparedness and mitigation.
There are hundreds of news articles, flood studies, research papers and planning documents about the Hawkesbury floodplain, but they can be hard to find, so we built this web site to make it easier.
This web site is a work in progress. For links not yet sorted onto pages, see the "Raw Links" page.
We will set up a contact form soon.
